Dr. Janet Soller’s international career includes performing, teaching, research, and scholarly writing in the field of piano and talent development. She has taught every age level from Pre-K through graduate and post-graduate professional development. Her teaching included private piano, general music classes, foundations of education, fundamentals of music theory and music history, educational psychology, and many professional workshops. She has taught at Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage, and American University, in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Soller earned degrees from Southwestern University (BM), Southern Methodist University (MM), and American University (PhD). Her piano teachers included Julio Esteban (Peabody) and Marjorie Clementi (Royal Northern College of Music). She won many prestigious scholarships for piano, including Rotary International Scholar and Leopold Schepp Scholar. Many professional colleagues have influenced her pedagogy including Byron Janis, concert pianist and teacher, Dr. Lynn Fox, Dr. Rena Subotnik, and Dr. Ellen Winner, in talent development and educational psychological research, and Louise Bianchi (SMU) and Mr. John Weems in piano pedagogy.
Soller Piano students receive top marks (ABRSM, Grade 8, Distinction, National Federation of Music Clubs, superiors, and competition wins). Her students have won Music Doing Good Scholarships and Conroe MTA Summer Camp Scholarships. She is a requested adjudicator and judge.
Dr. Soller belongs to Houston Forum Music Teachers Association, Conroe Music Teachers Association, and Houston Federation of Music Clubs. She is active with her local associations for MTNA and NFMC, and current TFMC District V President, Past TMTA Independent Music Teacher Forum State Chair.
Dr. Soller was elected to both Pi Kappa Lambda, the honor music society, and Delta Omicron.
Dr. Soller’s passion is teaching children to play the piano, teaching private piano to piano teachers, and developing professional development plans for private piano teachers.
